Summary: The concept of “transcendental freedom” plays a central role in the Kantian system, in the relationship between cosmology, anthropology, ethics and even philosophical theology. In order to understand better such a concept, the article proposes to ground it in the cosmological struggle around free causality, a path which powerfully challenges any determinism with regard to the natural world, and lays a foundation for an idea of freedom more congenial to the Christian ideal.
