Since 2024, Prof. Carbajo has been involved in developing the Doctorate in Education in Catholic Social Teaching in Practice (EdD), a collaborative initiative between the Franciscan School of Theology (FST) and the University of San Diego’s School of Leadership and Educational Sciences (SOLES). He works alongside Keith Warner, from FST, and Wendell Callahan, from USD’s School of Leadership and Educational Sciences. This program provides advanced leadership formation for professionals working in Catholic healthcare, education, social services, chaplaincy, mental health ministry, healing ministries, and diocesan roles
The courses currently being prepared will later be delivered by other faculty members. They are scheduled to begin in Fall 2026.
The EdD is a three-year professional doctorate with a capstone project (no dissertation). It will be delivered primarily online by faculty from both institutions, with two in-person residencies each year at Mission San Luis Rey. The program offers the “best of both” the SOLES and FST curricula, integrating leadership studies, Catholic social thought, the development of moral vision, theology, and action research to address the needs of contemporary organizations.
Earlier, in 2022, Prof. Carbajo contributed to the design of two modules for the course MTS-550: “Intercultural Theology: Unity, Diversity, and Change Today.” This course is part of the Master of Theological Studies program offered by FST at the University of San Diego (California, USA). Furthermore, for more than 14 years, Professor Carbajo has been a member of several scientific committees and has actively contributed to the preparation and organization of the annual congresses promoted by ISTE for the on-going formation of the clergy of the dioceses of Algarve, Beja, Évora, and Setúbal. Since 2015, he has also been a member of the Forum of Christian Economic Thought, which brings together specialists in this field in Spain.
