Fr.
Martín Carbajo-Núñez, OFM, will participate as a speaker in the 11th edition of the
Economy and Spirituality Festival (link), which will take place in the city of Lucca (Tuscany, Italy) on Friday, November 6, 2026. His presentation will be entitled: “Franciscan Economics and Its current Relevance.”
In addition to Fr. Carbajo, the event is expected to feature distinguished scholars such as Prof. Luca Parisoli (University of Calabria) and, most likely, Prof. Maria Giuseppina Muzzarelli (University of Bologna) and Prof. Grado Giovanni Merlo (University of Milan).
Alongside the central theme of Franciscan economics, the 11th edition of the Festival will devote special attention to the origins and development of the Monti di Pietà (Mounts of Piety), one of the most significant institutions of the Franciscan economic tradition.
Fr. Carbajo’s participation is of particular interest in light of his recent research on the Franciscan contribution to the development of scientific and technological rationality and on the dialogue between the Franciscan tradition and the challenges posed by emerging technologies. His presentation will offer valuable insights into how the economic vision that emerged within the Franciscan movement can continue to inspire creative and deeply human responses to the social and economic challenges of the contemporary world.
Over the years, the
Economy and Spirituality Festival has established itself as an important forum for dialogue among economics, ethics, spirituality, and culture, fostering interdisciplinary reflection on the major challenges of our time.
