The event is addressed to students and faculty from a wide range of disciplines, with particular attention to the relationship between reason and faith, and between theology and science. Prof. Carbajo was pleasantly surprised to find two people from his village, Figueruela de Arriba (Zamora), among those attending his talk.
In his lecture, Prof. Carbajo will emphasize how the progressive expansion of artificial intelligence is transforming the home into a space of growing economic interest and technological intrusion. Devices designed to facilitate family life—such as household appliances, vehicles, sensors, and digital assistants—are increasingly turning the most intimate spaces of the home into valuable sources of data for market-driven logics.
In this intrusive context, it becomes clear that the protection of family privacy, and especially the safeguarding of the best interests of the child, must prevail over any alleged informational benefit or commercial interest. When privacy is violated, the human person risks being reduced to a mere object.
In the first part of the lecture, the professor will present key findings on family privacy drawn from a study he conducted on more than sixty journalistic codes of ethics from forty-two European countries. Building on this research, he will examine the challenges that artificial intelligence poses to privacy within the family sphere and in the lives of minors, and will conclude by proposing strategies to address these challenges.
